Students and faculty from KU’s Institute for Information Sciences (I2S) participated in the Federal CyberCorps Scholarship for Services (SFS) job fair in Washington, D.C., Jan. 7-9, 2025. The SFS program is designed to increase and strengthen the cadre of federal information assurance professionals that protect the government’s critical information infrastructure. The job fair brings together more than 950 participants from cybersecurity undergraduate and graduate programs and Federal, state, local, and Tribal government agencies.

This year, 14 students from I2S’ High Assurance and Secure Systems Center attended the job fair – the largest Jayhawk cohort to participate in the program to date. Furthermore, in the welcome speech given by Dr. James Moore, Assistant Director of Directorate for STEM Education at the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), acknowledged a KU student’s SFS experience – one of two student profiles addressed in his presentation.

As of the start of 2025, 36 KU students have been awarded SFS scholarships. Of those, 19 students have been placed in government cybersecurity positions while 16 are still in school and one has a tentative offer.
