Huazhen Fang

Dr. Fang joined the Mechanical Engineering Department in 2014. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego in 2014. His research vision is to enable intelligence for complex systems towards high performance. The vision has driven his pursuits in systems and control theory, advanced battery management, and robotics. He has published over 85 peer-reviewed journal and conference articles and invented/co-invented multiple patents. His research has been sponsored by the National Science Foundation, Army Research Laboratory, Department of Energy, and Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, among others.

Dr. Fang received the Faculty Early Career Award from the National Science Foundation in 2019. At the University of Kansas, he was awarded the Miller Professional Development Award in 2022, the Miller Scholar Award in 2018 and 2019, the Wesley G. Cramer Outstanding Mechanical Engineering Faculty Award in 2016, and the Big XII Faculty Fellowship in 2015. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for Information Sciences, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Control Systems Letters, IEEE Open Journal of Control Systems, and IEEE Open Journal of the Industrial Electronics Society. He served on the ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Division Conference Editorial Board from 2015 through 2018 and is a present member of the IEEE Control Systems Society Conference Editorial Board.
